ABOUT JIM HALLER
I’m a Pen & Ink Artist and Art Educator. When I was in college, I was diagnosed with a degenerative health condition, which had a major impact on my life and my artwork. I used to do acrylic paintings and enjoyed creating landscapes and skies. However, my health condition began informing my work and I started to incorporate more from my life, my thoughts, and my experiences.
I like to find the balance between dark concepts and pretty imagery. My work includes a lot of images of medication, anatomy, hospitals, and nurses and is intended to illustrate the insecurities, fears, and anxieties that accompany my health struggles. I mainly draw with ink using a stippling technique, which is creating images using only a repetition of dots. This method of drawing is very meditative and therapeutic, similar to the mandalas created in various cultures. My goal is to create inspiring works of art from my struggles and negative experiences.
